We face off against Byford Venom Futsal Club this Saturday in round 18 of the State Futsal League Western Australia. Who are we raising funds for? Indi’s raise and shave for cancer! Up and coming Perth AFC superstar Indiana Antunes is raising money for Harry Perkins Institution of Medical Research but more specifically their research in woman’s cancer. Her goal is to raise $5000, If she is able to achieve this goal she will be shaving and donating her hair on her 16th birthday (27th may).
"I will not be participating in the walk for woman’s cancer but still wanted to raise the money and show my support in a different way. My family and friends are and have been participating in this walk for many years and I wanted to join the team in a different way.
Wanting to shave my head and raise this money to help further development in research for woman’s cancer and cancer in general was something that had taken a lot thought. My mum and my family are very big advocates on raising money and spreading awareness for many years. Over these years i have watched many people I know from my family to friends fight and battle or may have lost battles to cancer.
As much raising and donating is important, it’s also a personal challenge mentally, physically and emotional. Some people I have spoken to don’t really understand why i would want to shave my head. The way I think about it is it doesn’t matter how nice my hair is someone else’s hair could have been really nice and they wouldn’t have had a choice to keep it or not. Personally this is a bigger movement for me because this is something that will hopefully help someone else one day, and will help me grow as an individual." - Indi.
