Defending Champs EWA Put AFC To The Sword!

The lads took on last seasons champions and currently unbeaten Cockburn EWA on a late Friday night in what many gave AFC no chance of a result. The boys saw a great opportunity to get something out of this game but unfortunately it did not pan out that way.

More clinical, sharper and quicker EWA immediately got out on the front foot creating numerous chances only to be denied by the woodwork. You knew It was only a matter of time before EWA would open there scoring account and not only that but racing out to a quick 3-0 lead and would take that lead into half time.

AFC losing work horse Tom Eastman to a first half injury didn’t help there cause and were forced to turn to inexperienced players to fill the void. The break coming at a good time giving the lads a chance to regroup and we managed to strike first in the second half with some good link up play from Kevin Higgins and Nathan Thorp who has now scored in back to back weeks from limited attacks.

However it was short lived as the attacking power of EWA was to much to handle with doubles from Alex Kukic, Mark Gavranic, a hat trick for Jesse Lazzaro and one from Dec Burdle.

The questions continue to drop for the Perth AFC men’s side on what needs to happen to get there season underway as the boys slump to 0W 2D 3L start in the opening five rounds.

We wish Tom Eastman the best for his recovery from injury and fingers crossed we see him back out on the court soon.
