“Sundays Premier League game pitted us against a physical South Perth side who were out to avenge their first round 3 nil loss to us. We were confident after our 6-1 triumph over Victoria Park the week before and knew a similar performance would get us the points. Both teams went at each other early trying to get an early breakthrough but South Perth were using their physicality to effect and stopped us from knocking the ball around yet we battled hard and midway through first half a great free kick outside the area by Andres Arevalo found the top corner and AFC went in 1-0 up at the break!
The second half proved to be a fiery affair with both teams copping yellow cards. We managed to score a second goal courtesy of Sean Claude and thought we had the game sown up However full credit to South Perth who never gave in and put us under immense pressure and in last 25 mins won Two penalties, one superbly saved by Jarvis and the other missed in what was the Last kick of the game!
We had a few more chances throughout the second half but a hard fought 2-0 win was satisfying as we stood up to a real physical side. There would’ve been a few sore players after the game but I'm sure it was well worth it!”
